Max Mayer’s career in Schalke 04 is over. The midfielder, who is the youth of the “king-highs,” will no longer play for the team. He was removed from training until the end of the season and then left as a free agent. The 22-year-old German national is expected to move to Arsenal.
Meyer gave an interview to Bild, accusing Schalkke’s management of threatening him in connection with his unwillingness to renew his contract. The response from the club was not delayed. “For a long time, I felt that Max was feeling at home here,” he said in conversations with the coaching staff, “I am disappointed with his words, and I really can not understand it,” Schalke coach Domenico Tedesco said.
“We can not tolerate such behavior, and we are outraged by Meyer’s accusations,” said the sports director Christian Heydell, “and the club has always treated him correctly.
